The Importance of Exercise For Senior Citizens.
The importance of exercise all throughout an individual’s life cannot be stressed enough. Exercise reduces the effects of aging, improves overall health, and allows for a better quality of life. There is never a point in time in which it is too late to begin an exercise regimen. Senior citizens can find that exercise greatly improves their quality of life as well. Individuals that can barely move around might find that forcing themselves to walk for a few minutes a day every day may actually allow them to move around with greater mobility.
The key to a senior health regimen of daily exercise is to locate a qualified doctor, have a thorough physical, and receive an exercise recommendation. There is nothing wrong with starting small. A five minute walk a day is better than sitting in a chair and staring out the window, for instance. At an
advanced age it is more difficult to develop muscle tone and endurance. However, with constant practice and a little effort that five minute walk might become a half hour walk. That half hour walk might turn into an easy hourly stroll. Eventually that stroll might give way to a jog. There are seniors that compete in marathons at over the age of seventy.
The importance of exercise for the body is something that cannot be stressed enough. Exercise releases endorphins which allow for a more positive mind set. The warmth and sense of accomplishment for a good senior workout also manifests itself in greater self confidence and a healthier body. There is no secret to the fact that many of the most active senior citizens are also ones that tend to live several years longer as well.
